Exemplar Based Recognition of Visual Shapes

چکیده

In the talk I will presents an approach of visual shape recognition based onexemplars of attributed keypoints. The work may be seen as a refinementof a previous work [1]. The work is aimed at object shape categorizationby image semantic report. Training is performed by storing exemplarsof keypoints detected in labeled training images. Recognition is made bykeypoint matching and voting according to the labels for the matchedkeypoints. The matching is insensitive to rotations, limited scalings andsmall deformations. The recognition is robust to noise, background clutterand partial occlusion. Recognition is possible from few training imagesand improve with the number of training images. The simple trainingprocedure, eliminating off-line shape prototype definitions, facilitates theuse when many shapes are to be learned. One feature of the chosenkeypoint descriptor is that an image of the recognized structures can besynthesized based on the matched keypoints. References[1] S.I. What is Priming and Why?

and Specific Visual-Form Recognition and Priming In this section, two additional subsystems are briefly described to exemplify theory development within the approach of theorizing about functions of neural subsystems. Stemming from the mechanistic theory of priming above, two critical subsystems of consolidated memory in the neocortex may be an abstract-category subsystem and a specific-exempla...

Improving Exemplar-based Image Completion methods using Selecting the Optimal Patch

Image completion is one of the subjects in image and video processing which deals with restoration of and filling in damaged regions of images using correct regions. Exemplar-based image completion methods give more pleasant results than pixel-based approaches. In this paper, a new algorithm is proposed to find the most suitable patch in order to fill in the damaged parts. This patch selection ...

Not just the norm: exemplar-based models also predict face aftereffects.

The face recognition literature has considered two competing accounts of how faces are represented within the visual system: Exemplar-based models assume that faces are represented via their similarity to exemplars of previously experienced faces, while norm-based models assume that faces are represented with respect to their deviation from an average face, or norm. Face identity aftereffects h...

Similarity, typicality, and category-level matching of morphed outlines of everyday objects.

During visual object categorisation, a match must be found between the input image and stored information about basic-level categories. Graf [2002 Form, Space and Object (Berlin: Wissenschaftlicher Verlag Berlin)] suggested the involvement of analogue transformational, shape-changing processes in aligning the memory representation of the category with the perceptual representation of the curren...

Multiple processes in two-dimensional visual statistical learning

Knowledge about the arrangement of visual elements is an important aspect of perception. This study investigates whether humans learn rules of two-dimensional abstract patterns (exemplars) generated from Reber's artificial grammar. The key question is whether the subjects can implicitly learn them without explicit instructions, and, if so, how they use the acquired knowledge to judge new patter...
